Project 1: Examples of Typography - Hand-painted Text
Hand-painted text as part of a piece in Juxtaposed magazine. The article dealt with 10 "outsider" artists you've never heard of...how hipster. I like dog whistles...bet you've never heard them.
Project 1: Examples of Typography - Neon
The title page from an article in Mental Floss magazine in which 10 "ladies of the night" were featured, along with some very interesting tidbits and factoids of their lives. As much as I would like to have gone out and found some illuminations...I don't feel like getting shot in the city at night.
Project 1: Examples of Typography - Text Type w/ Interesting Color
From the cover of Bass Player magazine. This typographic treatment is given a bold and attention grabbing color treatment, and, in my opinion, is supposed to look similar to stage lights, or something very flashy and "showy". There aren't many people more flashy and "showy" than Bootsy Collins -- the namesake associated with the picture. Bootsy is known for his funkiness, but to be honest, I would have given the typography a different color scheme; something purple. This typeface may be Impact, or Impact Bold.
Project 1: Examples of Typography - Latin Influenced Typography
From an advertisement / poster for Latin musician and bassist "Cachao". Obviously the grammar marking point to Spanish, but the color of the tet also has a warm, Latin feel to it. The shape of the letter "C" (in both instances) lends a Latin feel to the selection. It would be easy to imagine multiple iterations of the name, repeated underneath in bright red, yellow, and blue...giving the text a festival feel. For some reason, I immediately think of Toucans when seeing this example.
Project 1: Examples of Typography - Business/Banking Typography
This restroom is open to the public. Actually, this is a portion of the Banana Republic logo. Photo taken at the Towson Mall.
Project 1: Examples of Typography - Asian Typography
Maifun Rice Sticks packaging. Photo taken at Giant grocery store. Obviously the Chinese letters are examples of Asian "type". However, I wasn't exactly sure if the "Maifun" portion was supposed to be the example - some sort of stereotypical Westernized faux-Asian font that you'd see on the outside of a P.F. Chang-style faux Asian restaurant.
Project 1: Examples of Typography - Historical Typography Used in a Contemporary Design
This is the front signage of the Tilted Kilt Pub and Eatery at The Avenue. The type treatment uses a historical-looking typeface, but then adds the tilted letter forms in order to get the name across.
